LAGUNA BEACH REPUBLCIANS IN FAVOR OF
LOUIS LONGI ARTIST WORK-LIVE PROJECT
On Tuesday, April 1st, by a 3-2 vote, the City Council approved the Louis Longi Artist Work-Live project in Laguna Beach canyon.
Council members Dicterow, Boyd and Mayor Pearson voted yea. Council members Iseman and Whalen voted nea.
Among the many people in favor of the Work-Live Project was the Laguna Beach Republicans. After unanimous adoption at our March meeting the previous night, the following official policy resolution was presented to the Council during the open hearing:
LB GOP Platform Resolution No. 1 of March 31, 2014:
The General Membership of the Laguna Beach Republicans supports approval of the Artist Live/Work project on the April 1, 2014, agenda of the City Council. We believe the project creatively serves social, cultural and economic purposes. It will promote our town's art colony heritage and contribute to the success of the arts and artist community as an essential sector in a sustainable, diversified and robust local economy. The design of the project can be realized in an aesthetically appropriate manner and is compatible with its development at the Laguna Canyon site, and it is the view of the LB GOP that dedication of some residential units to low income tenants does not in this particular case and under the specific circumstances set a problematic precedent of undue government intervention in the private sector economy.
